Volunteers Needed for Transcription Project:
Volunteers Needed for Transcription Project: In 1895 a man named Dolliver traveled around Gloucester, MA and wrote in cursive the words carved on the tombstones. The Gloucester Cemeteries Committee is working on a transcription project that will digitize Dolliver’s work, but we need volunteers to help decipher these handwritten historical documents, which will eventually be accessible on line. If you are curious, like unlocking local history and enjoy a challenge, help us! Visit https://sites.google.com/view/volunteer-local-history/home for more information.

Paul Ciaramitaro Pop Up Show September 3 – 7
How to make something out of nothing! Artist Paul Ciaramitaro Demo and Pop-up show Paul Ciaramitaro, a lifelong resident of Cape Ann, began his love of art as a child. Over the years, he has been influenced by the Renaissance artists as well as Aldro Hibbard, Emile Gruppe, and especially Charles Movalli. In the 1970’s, Paul became a student of Movalli’s and was deeply inspired by him. He told Paul “If you learn something from every painting you do, you will become an artist”. (verify this quote) In between his grueling hours as a commercial fisherman and dockworker, Paul sketched and painted in his spare time and worked hard to glean all that he could from his mentors. His commitment and talent led him to become a well-established and accomplished Cape Ann artist. His paintings have won many awards and his work can be found in both private and corporate collections, as well as in prestigious galleries and museums such as the Cape Ann Museum. Over the past several decades, Paul has taught numerous classes and workshops which have been widely attended, and he has served as a juror for many exhibitions. He is a juried artist member of both the North Shore Arts Association and The Rockport Art Association & Museum. When asked about being an artist Paul says, “I’m serious about it. I’m passionate about it and I love it!” Demonstration September 7, 2pm Space is limited so we do suggest that you sign up early… 11 Pirates Lane • Gloucester MA 01930 • 978.283.1857 • http://www.nsarts.org

2018 Seafood Throwdown at this week’s Cape Ann Farmers Market!

For our 10th annual event, the cook off will feature veteran competitors Common Crow and Feather and Wedge, represented by chefs Mike Duggan and Ryan McGovern respectively.
The challenge before them? To create a unique dish using a mystery locally caught seafood that will be revealed at the event.
Completed dishes shall be presented to a panel of judges who will score based on taste, use of the whole animal, presentation, and originality. Who will this year’s winner be?
PLUS
While the Throwdown chefs are hard at work, market goers will be able to feast on freshly prepared seafood dishes and learn about place-based consumption at the Eating with the Ecosystem 18-foot kitchen skiff. This seafood non-profit got their start in Rhode Island but aspires to become a voice for all New England commercial fishermen. Their five-anchor philosophy mirrors the same principles that the event has always promoted: proximity, symmetry, adaptability, connectivity, and most importantly, community.

AND ON TOP OF ALL THIS, WE’LL HAVE OUR AMAZING WEEKLY MARKET!
3:00-6:30 at Stage Fort Park!
Stock up on all your summer favorites, get your bike fixed by Big Mike’s Bikes, and bring home some of the same mystery fish the chefs use from Cape Ann Fresh Catch!
Win this painting at the Waterfront Festival!
