HarborLAB: Lobster 101

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 30, 2016, 6:30 PM TO 8:00 PM

AUDIENCE: ADULTS

Join our adult HarborLAB and learn about one of Gloucester’s notorius marine invertebrates…Homarus americanus, American Lobster. Participants will learn about our native Gloucester Harbor lobsters through dissection and microscope use. This is not your high school bio class. No formaldehyde. No grades. No experience required.

Maritime Gloucester’s February Vacation Program

Spend February Vacation at Maritime Gloucester for Sea Creatures of Cape Ann. The program runs Tuesday through Friday and includes a variety of activities in the classroom, microscope laboratory, wet lab, and museum.  Students may enroll for one day or for the entire four days.  There are two different programs based on age of the students that are offered during the four-days—one for Pre-K to K (ages 3.5-5) and the other for Grades 1-5.  The Pre-K/K drop-in program runs from 9:00 am-10:30 am and children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The Grade 1-5 program runs from 8:30 am-3:30 pm; after care until 5:00 pm is available for Grade 1-5 students for an additional fee.  For more information and to register online, please visit click here.

HarborLAB Squid Dissection at Maritime Gloucester

Don’t let the kids have all the fun!

Wednesday, February 3rd from 6:30 – 8:00 pm come to our adult HarborLAB and learn all about marine invertebrates. At this– our first HarborLAB, participants will learn about cephalopods and dissect a squid. We will locate and identify the internal organs and learn how scientists classify these animals. You’ll never look at a plate of fried calamari in the same way! Easy online registration HERE.

Spend the evening with us learning Gyotaku—the Japanese craft of fish printing. We will have an assortment of gift items to print-aprons, tote bags and frame-worthy art paper. Maritime Gloucester has once again partnered with Boatwise to offer a series of Captain’s Courses and Safe Boating Basics and Navigation Classes. All courses and classes will take place in Maritime Gloucester’s Robbins Classroom. Descriptions, dates and tuition are listed below.
