Maritime Gloucester is teaming up with Ocean Alliance to bring Gloucester on location for their current research expedition.  This is a first-of-its-kind LIVE webcast where YOU the audience gets a front row seat to the action.  Ask questions LIVE and check out the status of their current research as they gather data in the Dominican Republic.

WHAT:  The Ocean Alliance team is on a humpback whale research expedition off the coast of the Dominican Republic! They are studying the breeding behaviors of the very same whales that feed just off of Cape Ann in the summer using their innovative SnotBot drone, which has revolutionized whale research.

The first night of Deck the Docks was a great beginning to our event!

Special thanks to Captain Stefan Edick for capturing and sharing the campus lights from the Fitz Henry Lane house!  Our pier is all decked out for holiday cheer.

The gallery saw the opening night of “Deck Your Walls Art Show” with some great works by local and regional artists.  Over 141 pieces are in this show and each one of them is for sale!  You will not want to miss seeing the Schooner Gallery all decked out for this show.

AND WE ARE JUST GETTING STARTED!  Trees, wreaths, art, crafts, gifts, good friends and a lot of fun are all in store for the next 2 days!  Get your tree or wreath any time Friday, Saturday or Sunday — while supplies last!  Take a picture with Santa from 11 to 1 on Saturday.

Maritime Gloucester is working hard to get ready for the first annual Deck the Docks!  We have so many fun things to do!  Get your tree, buy a wreath, shop for gifts, DIY crafts, Santa pics in a Dory, etc.

The community is welcome to the hauling out of the Sylvina W. Beal, Wednesday, Nov 6 from 9:30am to 11:30am at Maritime Gloucester.  This 107 year old schooner will be hauled out on the 169 year old Maritime Gloucester Railway.

It started out as a great idea by Peter Bent, and grew into a community-wide effort to make this year’s Gloucester Schooner Festival the best to date! It seemed so evident…build some docks so that people can get up close and see the schooners like never before. And by all accounts, that is what we did. The 480 feet of dock space became the star of the show. 3000 people visited the boats on these docks over 3 days. It was a great addition and a real benefit for the community.

So many people were involved in this effort, but a few need special mention. First, is Geoffrey Richon who steered the building of the docks from start to finish. Peter Bent who was involved in every step from raising funds to launch to finding a place to store them. The Mayor and the City for allowing them to be prominently placed at I4C2. Beauport Hospitality Group and the Dusky Foundation, who saw and funded the vision. And many thanks go out to the members of the Gloucester Schooner Festival Committee for their job getting together the event of the year. As these docks get stored for the winter, Maritime Gloucester can’t wait to re-engage the whole community and bring them back next summer. The plans (and the fundraising) to make these docks longer and give more people the chance to get aboard starts now! Thanks for a great Festival. See you next year!
