We will take your old Christmas Tree and recycle it for use in local gardens.

Why get pine needles all over your car?

Do not let dry brittle branches scratch the paint !

Tree pick up on Saturday January 14

Trees must be free of ornaments, lights, and tree stands.

Trees should be put outside prior to our arrival.

A $5 donation will go to support local Boy Scout Troop 20.

Money will be used to go on Scouting trips, outings, and/or equipment.

If you would like us to pick up your tree please call 978-546-9501 with your name, address, telephone number and which day is best to pick up your tree. Or, E-mail with the same information to treepickup@verizon.net

Gloucester Snow Emergency Parking Ban: Noon, Sat Jan 7th to Noon, Sat Jan 8th

From the Gloucester Mayor’s Office:
Effective at noon today, Saturday, January 7th, 2017, Gloucester has declared a snow emergency and parking ban on all city streets due to the first snow storm of the year. 
From noon today, Saturday, January 7th, until noon Sunday, January 8th, all vehicles are banned from parking on city streets. The Sawyer Free Library will also close at noon today.
Residents may park in all municipal and school parking lots, including Gloucester High School, O’Maley Innovation Middle School, West Parish and all other school parking lots. Please be advised that all vehicles in school lots must be removed one hour after the ban has been lifted.

All residents and businesses are reminded that they are responsible for clearing snow from sidewalks adjacent to their property. Please make every effort to shovel out hydrants at or near your homes, and please check on your elderly and disabled. Violators of this emergency declaration are subject to ticketing and towing at the owner’s expense.

Please remove all vehicles from municipal parking lots two hours after the parking ban expires. Your cooperation during this parking ban is necessary for efficient and safe snow removal efforts.

Kestrel Educational Adventures is starting a preschool class this January!

Through play, stories, and hands – on experiences, we will explore the lives of wild creatures. The winter session will focus on using our senses to learn about the nature that is all around us. Each day we will focus on a different one of the senses, and on the final day, we will combine all senses to make discoveries. On most days, we will make original creations that show off the cool things we learn. Giving close attention to the world around us, we will become keen naturalists and imaginative artists. This class takes place primarily inside our headquarters building, with brief excursions into the areas right outside.

SeniorCare Offering Caregiver Respite

SeniorCare Inc. has received funding to provide respite services to low-moderate income, with a concentrated effort to reach the underserved such as the LGBTQ Community. In addition, specialist staff will support family caregivers in problem solving, decision making and finding options for short and long term care needs. This funding is available to residents of Beverly, Essex, Gloucester, Hamilton, Ipswich, Manchester by the Sea, Rockport, Topsfield, and Wenham. By definition, respite care is substitute care given so that the regular caregiver can take a break and get some relief from the burden of caregiving. Respite care can be for a weekend, a day, or even for an hour.

Caregivers are often at increased risk of depression and other health problems as a result of the stress of being a caregiver. Having respite care can enable the caregiver to keep providing rather than burning out or becoming ill themselves.

Caregivers looking for respite may qualify for this support. SeniorCare can cover the cost for in-home care, weekend stays at long-term care facilities, and adult day care services. What happens when history and fine art meet improv and silliness? Bring the kids or grand-kids and find out for yourself when Cape Ann Improv performs at the Cape Ann Museum. The arts and objects on display in the galleries will provide the inspiration for scenes and characters for interactive improvisational games throughout the Museum. Discover the art, history and culture of Cape Ann and have a good laugh with the talented and witty Cape Ann Improv performers.
