The Friends of Seacoast Annual Seacoast 10K Road Race was a huge success. Runners from all of the state ran the 10K race throughout the beautiful scenic trail in Gloucester.

We are grateful to Patrick Thorpe, President of Bank Gloucester and his Board of Directors, our generous race sponsor for their continued support of this annual race which has become one of our major fund raisers.

Lahey Health/Addison Gilbert Hospital, Rockport Mortgage, Lyons Ambulance, Cape Ann Savings Bank, Institution for Savings, and Good Morning Gloucester and Eileen and Bob Matz and Dr. Joseph Geary for sponsoring the tee shirts given to the runners and volunteers.

Care Dimension for sponsoring the registration table, and Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for providing all the water, bananas and Gatorade at the beverage table.

The success of every organization is dependent on the people who give selflessly of their time and money. The Friends of Seacoast are fortunate to have so many of these people insuring that the residents stay connected to the community. Their efforts provide the entertainment on a daily basis. Harbor rides, monthly dining at area restaurant, dinner shows at Seacoast, gifts at Mother’s and Father’s Day along with Christmas. Races at Suffolk’s Down, and many more events that would not be possible without the Friends of Seacoast.

It all starts with our capable Activities Director Alison Cox, our Administrator Stephen Doyle and our Friends of Seacoast members, Chairperson, Lisa Leahy, our Race Director JD Mac Eachern, Maryanne Amero, Angela Ciaramitaro, Joey Ciaramitaro, Pat Ciaramitaro, Rosalee Nicastro, Buzz Mc Eachern, Donna Saunders, Grace Simpson, Vincie Scola, Mary Spinola, Paul Spinola, and Ruthie Dupuis Exama.

Each year we receive the support of the Gloucester Police Department who provide the lead car and manage the course and it’s traffic to insure the runner and public are safe during this road race, We are grateful to Police Chief Lennie Campanello and the Gloucester Police Department Asst. Chief. John Mc Carthy, Lt. Dave Quinn, Sgt. Sandy MacDonald and Officer George Carr.

Last but not least to Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken who came and extended the greeting to the runner at the start and congratulated them at the finish of the race during the award ceremony, and her Administrative Assistant Christopher Sicuranza for all his help in promoting the race on the City of Gloucester web site.

Rocky Neck Art Colony and the Cape Ann Museum Collaborate

Join the Cape Ann Museum for a FREE artist talk with Julie Graham this Sunday at 2:00 pm!

This program marks the 7th year of collaboration with the Rocky Neck Art Colony for the Distinguished Artist/Teacher Goetemann Artist in Residence lecture. Graham – a painter, photographer, sculptor, and faculty member of the School of the MFA Boston – will address the evolution of her work, focusing on the importance of source material and inspiration, as well as how things may change or stay the same over the course of a career.

Beauport, Sleeper McCann House Tour & Lecture

SeniorCare Inc.’s recently established program “Seniors Out & About – An LGBT Social Gathering” organizes events for older LGBT people (60 years of age and older), their friends and family. Our next event will be a Lecture and Tour of Gloucester’s Beauport, Sleeper McCann House on Thursday, September 29, 2016. The private museum tour will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Beauport, located at 75 Eastern Point Blvd in Gloucester. Following the Tour, there will be a lecture at 7:30 p.m. at the Rocky Neck Cultural Center at 6 Rocky Neck Avenue in Gloucester. Join us for an interesting look into the history of one of Gloucester’s most unique treasures, the Beauport Museum, which was known as a “Bachelor’s House” in the early twentieth century, a coded reference to a homosexual household or homeowner.

2016 Open Tennis Tournament From The Enjoy Gloucester Foundation

Hope all is well!  I just wanted to give you an update on our tennis tournament. 
Starting today until August 8 we are reducing the entry fee for either singles tournament.  The fee was originally $45, and starting today until Aug. 8 it is now $35.  Anyone interested in taking advantage of this needs to email:

I have attached a flyer in hopes of getting some of your readers to join us in our Annual Tennis Tournament.  We still have a few spots open, but registration closes Monday night 8/8 at 10:00pm.
This year we are sponsored by USTA-New England.  We are using a double elimination format, and will have 3 categories.  A singles advanced level, a singles intermediate level, and a doubles intermediate level.
This is a Fun Tennis Tournament for High School kids on up.  It’s for male, female, and any skill level.  This is a great way to play some tennis, and Enjoy Gloucester!

Gloucester Rotary Club Presents its Annual Comedy Show on September 1

The Rotary Club of Gloucester MA will hold its annual Comedy Show Fundraiser on Thursday, September 1, 2016, at Cruiseport Gloucester, located at 6 Rowe Square in downtown Gloucester, MA.  This year’s Comedy Night features comedians Tony V., Steve Calechman, Chris Dimitrakopoulos, and Dave Rattigan. Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm.

GLOUCESTER ROTARY PANCAKE BREAKFAST
Come for the Pancakes, Stay for the Waterfront Festival!

The Rotary Club of Gloucester MA will hold its annual Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser on Saturday, August 20, 2016, from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in Stage Fort Park, located on Hough Avenue in Gloucester, MA.  This popular event takes place concurrently with the Gloucester Waterfront Festival, which is sponsored by the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce and is held in Stage Fort Park on Saturday-Sunday, August 20-21, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. both days.

Tickets for the Pancake Breakfast are $7 per person and are available from any Gloucester Rotarian or at the Rose Baker Senior Center at 6 Manuel F Lewis Street in downtown Gloucester, Bank Gloucester, Cape Ann Savings Bank and at Institution for Savings; Gloucester branch locations only. Tickets will also be available on the morning of the breakfast.
