Gloucester Meetinghouse presents the Essex Piano Trio performing “A Conversation among Friends” on April 18th

The Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation proudly presents the Essex Piano Trio as part of its Tenth Anniversary Series on April 18th at 7:30pm in the Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church. The trio, playing a combination of the piano, violin and cello, will perform pieces that explore the friendships between the late 19th and early 20th century composers including Ravel, Vaughan Williams, Tchaikovsky and Arensky. 

After playing together for several years throughout New England, the musical friends known as the Essex Piano Trio formalized their working relationship in 2017.  Their signature concert title “A Conversation among Friends,” borrowing a descriptive phrase from American biographer Catherine Bowen, alludes to their audience-friendly concert format of interesting music interspersed with casual commentary.  The trio’s primary goal has been to grow as musicians while making the best music possible to share with audiences. Essex Piano Trio members bring many perspectives from their academic backgrounds and professional lives as educators and performers.

The historic Meetinghouse is located on the green at the corner of Middle and Church Streets (GPS 50 Middle Street). General admission is $30, students $10, under 12 free. Tickets are available at the door and online (recommended) with more information at: www.gloucestermeetinghouse.org.

Parking is available on the Green in front of the Meetinghouse (enter between the granite pillars) and at other locations around the Historic District. An accessible side entrance with a lift is at 10 Church Street.

CELESONG 2026: A night of music and song in support of Wellspring House

A Nashville-Style Songwriters’ Round Featuring Darrell Scott, Beth Nielsen Chapman & Marcus Hummon

Wellspring House will present Celesong 2026—its most important annual fundraising event—on Friday, May 1, 2026, at the Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport. Doors open at 6:15 pm for an unforgettable evening that brings together music lovers, community champions, and supporters of Wellspring’s mission for a Nashville-style songwriters’ round featuring extraordinary talent and storytelling.

Wellspring creates opportunity for families and young adults across the North Shore through stable housing, education, job training, and career readiness. Each year, more than 2,000 people turn to Wellspring for support to overcome barriers, build skills, and move toward stability and financial independence, one family, one job, and one home at a time.

Returning to the Celesong stage is nationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Darrell Scott, joined by Beth Nielsen Chapman and Marcus Hummon. Between them, these legendary artists have earned inductions to the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Grammy Awards, and Lifetime Achievement honors. Their music and storytelling have shaped generations, and together they bring uncommon depth, heart, and connection to every stage they share.

The evening will also feature an intimate live auction with a handful of carefully chosen items, including an exclusive Tim McGraw at Fenway Park package and a custom guitar signed by the night’s featured artists. Billy Costa will once again serve as emcee and bring his signature energy to the auction block, making it one of the most exciting moments of the evening.

The Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation’s Annual Bach Birthday Concert performed by Brandenburg and Beyond

The Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation is delighted to present Brandenburg and Beyond, a neo-baroque ensemble featuring a combination of flute, oboe, harpsichord, and strings, performing in our annual Bach Birthday Concert on Saturday, March 21st at 7:30pm in the Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church, located on the green at the corner of Middle and Church Streets.

The ensemble performs classic baroque works as well as contemporary music written in this century. The resident harpsichordist, Chris Gantner, is a composer who frequently premiers new works specifically for the group. These New England-based artists perform all over the world and hold teaching and performance positions at various orchestras, colleges, and universities.

The program entitled “Bach and His Sons” will feature the following pieces:

Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 by J.S. Bach 

Concerto for Flute and Strings in D Minor by C.P.E. Bach 

Prelude and Fugue in C Minor for Organ by J.S. Bach

The Short Tempered Klavier by P.D.Q. Bach – arranged for this occasion and unique instrumentation by Chris Gantner

The historic 1806 Meetinghouse, listed on the National Historic Register, was built for the first Universalist Church in America and is the home of the Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church, is located on the green at the corner of Middle and Church Streets (GPS 50 Middle Street).  Parking is available on the green, entered between two granite posts on Middle Street, and around the historic district. The side entrance at 10 Church Street has an elevator to the main level, if needed.

Charles Tompkins and Son live in Concert May 17th at 7:30pm

The Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation presents Charles Tompkins and son Gregory Tompkins in concert on Saturday evening, May 17th. Charles Tompkins (organ and piano) and Gregory Tompkins (violin) will perform in the Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church. They are a dynamic and talented father and son duo who have performed in venues such as Trinity University in San Antonio, TX, Harvard Memorial Church in Cambridge, MA, and at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC.

Dr. Charles Boyd Tompkins is the Distinguished University Organist and Professor of Music Emeritus at Furman University, Greenville, South Carolina, where as a member of the music faculty he taught organ, harpsichord, church music, and music theory from 1986 until his retirement in December 2022. He currently serves as the accompanist for the University’s outstanding choral ensembles (the Furman Singers, Furman Chamber Choir, and Belle Voci Women’s Chorale), directs Furman’s Hartness Organ Recital Series, and plays for academic convocations and weddings. Charles was central to the commission of a Fisk concert organ, completed in 2003, for the Charles E. Daniel Memorial Chapel.

Gregory Tompkins is a versatile violinist who regularly performs in solo, chamber and orchestral settings throughout the United States. Gregory is a member of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra, and serves as principal second violin Opera Theater of Connecticut and Orchestra New England. He is a member of the faculty of Gateway Community College and the Hopkins School in New Haven, CT.

The Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church is located at the corner of Church and Middle Streets (GPS 50 Middle Street) where parking is available on the green. The Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation presents sonic artist and maestro of the pipe-organ Peter Krasinski accompanying two silent film classics, ALICE IN WONDERLAND (filmed on Cape Ann in 1915!) and the TOLL OF THE SEA (1922) on Saturday, November 2 at 7:30pm at the Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church on Middle Street. Accessible side entrance at 10 Church Street.

This annual classic silent movie event is great fun for the whole family, presented in collaboration with the Cape Ann Community Cinema.  Maestro Krasinski is world-famous for his brilliant, improvised accompaniment of silent films and will perform on the mighty 1893 Hutchings/Fisk pipe organ in our historic Meetinghouse.

On Monday, August 5 from 11:00 to 11:45 am everyone is invited to enjoy a FUN FAMILY CONCERT featuring the award-winning band “Ants on a Long” performing music that centers positivity, social justice, and silliness. Full of humor and harmony, Ants concerts are energetic, interactive, and a delight for children and adults.

Come shake off the last of winter and soak up the warmth of community spirit at this free family-friendly event featuring a performance by “Moonraker” and “Dis n’ Dat Reggae Band”

Get ready to make a splash as Sawyer Free Library invites you to a community-wide celebration, “Making a Splash for the 2025 Sawyer Free,“ at The Cut. Dive into the fun THIS Sunday, April 28, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, and usher in summer early with an afternoon of live music, beach games, and summer vibes for all ages. 

Headlining the afternoon festivities will be a performance by Gloucester’s very own Mayor’s band “MOONRAKER,” featuring Amy Prichard on lead vocals and guitar, Adam Quinn on drums, Missy Sponagle lending her vocal talents, Nate Kidder on lead guitar, Mayor Greg Verga on bass, and a special guest appearance by Millie Manning from “Millie and the Half Nelsons” on vocals and keyboard.

Adding to the summertime vibe, local reggae sensation the “Dis n’ Dat band will kick off the party, setting the stage for an afternoon filled with family-friendly beach games, prizes, auction, raffle, and other surprises. Plus, expect insightful remarks about the 2025 Sawyer Free Library.

A day of artistic expression and community fun!

Free and fun for all ages taking place at 20 and 21 Main Street in downtown Gloucester!

Gloucester Zine Fest presented by the Sawyer Free Library is taking place this Saturday, April 27, from 11 am to 3 pm at both 20 and 21 Main Street in Gloucester, MA. The festival, in celebration of the Library’s new zine collection, zine- making, and zine culture, promises a day filled with artistic expression, community engagement, and fun for all ages. It is free and open to everyone to attend and enjoy with free giveaways for the first 200 attendees. 

Attendees can look forward to a vibrant and engaging lineup of hands-on activities and workshops for all ages, including inspiring speakers and live music with a special performance by Gloucester Student Band, with the highlight being the Zine Marketplace at 20 Main Street. Participants of all ages can also unleash their creativity by crafting their own zine with local community partners Cape Ann Art Haven and Cape Ann Museum. And what’s a festival without some delicious treats? Attendees can indulge in some Holy Cow Ice Cream while immersing themselves in the world of zines.
