Design Your Destiny: A Vision Board Workshop on Feb 13

Join the Sawyer Free Library on Thursday, February 13 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm for an inspiring Vision Board Workshop, where we’ll dive into the power of visualization and goal-setting to create a meaningful path toward your dreams. Led by local wellness coach Marcy Plante, this workshop will be an interactive and creative session designed to help you clarify your intentions, map out your goals, and bring your aspirations to life. Through guided exercises, reflection, and collage-making, you’ll construct a personalized vision board filled with images, words, and symbols that resonate with your true desires. 

This is more than just a craft—it’s an opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, tap into your potential, and set the course for the life you want to live. Marcy Plante, is a dedicated individual driven by over 50 years of diverse experiences. Throughout her journey, she’s served as a coach in softball and field hockey, led in the wellness industry, and contributed as an educator. With a master’s in education, she’s continually pursued growth and learning.

For 17 years, she successfully managed a health club, guiding numerous individuals to achieve their fitness objectives. Her motivation stems from a commitment to personal excellence and a desire to positively impact others. She is currently the owner and founder of Cape Ann Compass, Life and Health Coaching. 

Her passion lies in helping individuals uncover their potential and embrace life with enthusiasm.

Summer at the Sawyer Free Library: Reverse Glass Painting with Pop Up Art School for Teens & Tweens

On Tuesday, July 16 from 4:30 to 6:00 pm Tweens and Teens are invited to unlock their crafty side, learn about the centuries-old art of reverse glass painting and create their own reverse painting with Pop Up Art School at the Sawyer Free Library!

Participants can choose from three images, and paint it using acrylic paint on clear acetate.

Reverse painting techniques have been used since the 16th century. In reverse painting, the details are painted first and then the larger shapes. It’s the reverse order of how one usually paints on paper or canvas where we start with the background, add medium to large shapes and then details. Once the image has been painted, it is viewed from the opposite side through the clear acetate.

Rising 6th graders to graduated 12 graders welcome. Space is limited, please register at SawyerFreeLibrary.org to hold your spot.

The workshops, presented by career counseling expert Gary Gekow, are free and accessible to those in the Gloucester community and beyond. The Importance of Linked In, Tuesday, July 27, 7-8:30 pm

Did you know that there are over 467 million LinkedIn users worldwide? The workshop will review best practices as they relate to online profile creation and managing one’s account. The class will also highlight the many additional usages of LinkedIn, including the importance of joining groups and getting others to offer testimonials. 


Online Job Search and Resume Submittal, Tuesday, August 3, 11 am-12:30 pm & 7-8:30 pm

This workshop will analyze and discuss numerous online search strategies, including job alerts, job boards, job aggregators, and company  employment pages. The group led by expert Gary Gekow will then discuss how to best utilize these websites for submitting one’s resume. 

The Art of Networking, Tuesday, August 10, 7-8:30pm

Job fairs, corporate hiring events, Meetups, and other online social media platforms are just some avenues where people can promote their networking skills. While attending these events and dropping off a resume is a good start, deeper engagement is required in today’s job market. Learn from the career professional about networking strategies to better enhance your employment attainment prospects. 


Adjusting to a Changing New Normal, Tuesday, August 24, 7-8:30pm

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to have a major impact on employment issues and job search trends. This interactive virtual Zoom meeting will address a series of topics including, but not limited to working from home, remaining positive and productive amidst disruptions to everyday life, building relationships through collaborations, and taking advantage of free online tools. 

The Job Seekers Summer Workshop Series is a part of the Sawyer Free Library’s recently launched Resources for Job Seekers Program. The program also features one-on-one resume sessions and a dedicated webpage, available in over 100 world languages, with extensive resources specially curated by Library staff and expert-led virtual workshops.

Gardening workshop: How to start seeds indoors
