Wise Aging Together
WISE AGING TOGETHER
Temple Ahavat Achim (86 Middle St., Gloucester, MA)
Sunday, November 1st from 10 am to 12 pm
We can look forward to a longer life span than in any time in history. This trend is expected to continue.
What are the opportunities, the concerns, challenges, the questions? How do we navigate the inevitable changes that will accompany us? How do we make the best use of our extra years? This is new terrain. There a no precedents and few models to follow. No paths but the steps we take, one after the other.
WE DON’T HAVE TO DO THIS ALONE.
At TAA we are starting a year long Wise Aging Project, partly in cooperation with Jewish Family and Children Service and in collaboration with other community resources. Through readings from secular and Jewish texts, guest lectures, guided exercise and discussion groups, we will explore, this life stage together.
Our First event will be a presentation and discussion by Marjorie Sokoll and her staff from the JF&CF Spirituality and Aging program. We are thrilled and excited to be starting this project with you.

URGENT IMPORTANT CITIZEN INPUT NEEDED REGARDING NEW STREETLIGHTS
I LOVE CHANGE, CHANGE FOR THE BETTER THAT IS. IS THIS A CHANGE FOR THE BETTER? ARE WE COMMITTED TO THE NEW STREET LIGHTS? HOW DO YOU FEEL LED LIGHTS WILL AFFECT THE QUALITY OF YOUR LIFE IN OUR COMMUNITY, WHETHER 4000K OR 3000K OR NO CHANGE?
Two variations on LED streetlights being considered by the city have been set up for evaluation. The test installations are the first four lights on the west side of Washington Street just south of Gee Avenue. There are two types, rated at 3,000 degrees Kelvin and 4,000 degrees Kelvin. The “color” of the light is slightly different between the two types.
People concerned about light pollution and the effect of the lights on wildlife have been advocating for the 3,000K lights. Send your comments to Matt Coogan in the City’s Planning Department. His email address is:

The Matz Gallery Artist for October is Kathleen George
“These paintings depict images of the imagination, but are inspired by the obvious roiling beauty of the North Shore. Each piece is made using acrylic paint over sanded wood, layered many times and then hand-framed. Additionally, the abstract paintings are an experiment using copper leaf, torn and pressed to wood, then painted over with acrylic. All art is for sale. Please contact the artist at www.paintedbranches.com” Thanks for viewing!”

The 33rd Annual Essex ClamFest
The Essex ClamFest is an event hosted and co-ordinated by the Essex Division of the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce. This is our 33rd year and has become the largest event held in Essex. We have grown from our beginning in the parking lot of Woodman’s Restaurant here in Essex, as far back as we can remember! We began as a way to showcase the Essex clam and now feature not only the clam but the famous clam chowders from all over Cape Ann and Ipswich. The highlight of the day is the Chowder Competition among area restaurants- theprize? Bragging rights for the year!
Entrants’ chowder is judged by a panel of locals and professional Judges, as well as a Popular vote by the people sampling the chowders.
Supplementing the Chowder event, is a variety of vendors – food, local arts and crafts people , all day entertainment, children’s activities , non-profits fundraising and information and Police and Fire Department Safety activities. The local Board of Health also runs a flu shop clinic on the grounds. From 1500 to 2000 people attend this event, which is being held on October 24, 2015, with a rain date of October 25th.
We hope to see you there!
