Confessions of a Garden Fanatic, Still Crazy after all these years

Linda Lipton will present a power-point view of her historical garden in Salem, MA. With her husband Fred, they created a backyard garden that was featured in the summer 2018 issue of North Shore Home Magazine. They used sequential steps to create their landscaped garden from scratch. Topics in this entertaining idea-filled, PowerPoint lecture include: honoring the historical context of a garden site, creating a feeling of authenticity and charm in a New England garden and getting designer results in a DIY garden. The Seaside Garden Club meets on the second Tuesday of the month at the Manchester Community Center, 7pm social hour, the meeting begins promptly at 7:30pm. New members and guests are always welcome, $30 to join for the year, $5 for one meeting.

The Seaside Garden Club is a group of fun, active, civic-minded and hands-on gardeners. We welcome all types of gardeners from beginners to experienced… there is always something to learn and share. We invite you to become a member of our club and enjoy our monthly programs which feature interesting guest speakers and creative workshops.

The Essex Shipbuilding Museum took a group of students, from Topsfield Vocational Academy,  that built the clamming skiff on a  trip last Friday.  They left from Conomo Point and rowed the clam skiff, with two of the museums fleet of Sharptown barges to two clam flats (Seal Bank and Town Nub), where the students learned how to clam with a fork and by hand. Their teacher Mark Webster and professional clammer and project partner Ian MacDougall, of Hermit Crab Industries, showed the students how to harvest the clams.  When they had dug enough clams (soft-shell and razor), they had a clambake on the flats followed by a row back to Conomo Point. A great way to end a tremendous project, they built the boat and then put it to work.
