Canned Food Drive 4/8 to help St Vincent de Paul
Come help us fill the shelves of the St Vincent DePaul food pantry that supports our neighbors on Cape Ann. On Saturday April 8th you can help us by bringing your canned foods to Market Basket, Shaw’s on Eastern Ave and Rite Aid in Rockport. The Gloucester Knights of Columbus will be there with local Boy and Girl Scouts from 9 am to 3 pm.

The Essex Elementary School PTO is at it again!
The Down River Raffle is a big part of the “Making Waves for EES!” spring fundraising event, which is our biggest fundraiser of the year by far. This year, we have partnered up with ERBA to raffle off a pair of kayaks and accessories, a prize package worth over $3000! Tickets are $50 and we only sell 250, so get yours now! Author and art historian, Judith Curtis will give an illustrated lecture on one of the North Shore’s most distinguished landscape and marine painters, the late Charles Movalli. This talk will touch on Movalli’s philosophy and technique as it pertains to works in the Cape Ann & Beyond exhibition.

Judith Curtis is a freelance writer specializing in art-related themes and is curator of the Rockport Art Association and Museum’s permanent collection. She lives on Cape Ann and is a regular contributor to the American Art Review. She has also written several books including Anthony Thieme, The Life and Art of Paul Strisik, N.A., W. Lester Stevens, N.A., (1888-1969), Harry A. Vincent and His Contemporaries, Rocky Neck Art Colony (1850—1950) and A. T. Hibbard, American Master.

City Update: Parking Ban Ends Tonight 8PM (Tues March 14)
Due to the mix of rain and less snow totals, the City of Gloucester is lifting the parking ban as of 8PM tonight, Tuesday, March 14th, 2017. Parking will be permitted on all city streets after 8PM tonight. All cars parked in municipal parking and school parking lots must be removed before 7AM Wednesday morning or will be subject to ticket and towing. Thank you. What: The Power of Play Festival: a day of play for ALL AGES.

Who: Gloucester families and kids. Admission $5 per family at the door.
Gloucester Education Foundation’s Power of Play Festival will feature fun family activities like: an obstacle course, art projects, lego building challenges, hula-hooping, giant board games, music, dance, fort-building, goop-making, sand and water play, simon says and LOTS more.
Play promotes creativity and innovation, and helps kids develop skills that are a foundation for life-long success, including critical thinking, communication, problem solving, and collaboration.
