MIXED: A Cocktail Competition to benefit Action Inc.!
There can be only one: 8 bartenders, 4 rums, one winner. Join us as 8 of the North Shore’s best bartenders battle to create the ultimate cocktail. You’ll watch as they mix their drink for the judges and you’ll get to sample some of the cocktails for yourself and help crown the “crowd favorite”.
While you’re sampling cocktails, Mile Marker One will provide some hearty appetizers (included in the ticket price) and post-competition, enjoy the live band we’re bringing with us!
It gets better: Proceeds from the night will benefit Action Inc, a non-profit based in Gloucester that offers affordable housing, homelessness prevention, fuel assistance, energy conservation programs, education and job training.

It’s summer time and our gardens are overflowing with everything from tomatoes to herbs to zucchini! Come join us for a cooking workshop to learn how you can put all those summer fruits to good use and learn some new recipes.
This year our workshop will be led by one of our community gardeners who will focus on recipes from her home country Syria. Learn how to make well-know classics like hummus as well as a few lesser known Syrian recipes.

Captain Carlo’s Fundraiser for Cape Ann Animal Aid
Join Cape Ann Animal Aid at Captain Carlo’s on Saturday, August 11th between 11:30am-3:00pm (dine in or take out). Enjoy a delicious meal for a great cause! The restaurant will be donating 10% of all sales to Cape Ann Animal Aid, helping dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens to thrive and find loving homes.

Watercolor Workshop this Saturday
Jeff Weaver “Works on Paper” at North Shore Arts Association July 27 – August 18. Open free to the public!
Gloucester artist Jeff Weaver was born in 1953 in Framingham, Massachusetts. He began drawing and painting at an early age, and by the age of fourteen he began accepting portrait commissions. In high school he was an award winning young artist, winning competitions in state-wide competitions. During this time his teacher and mentor was Eleanor Marvin, accomplished sculptor and graphic artist, who nourished his draftsmanship skills. After graduating from high school, he studied at the Boston Museum School. In 1972 he moved to Gloucester, sketching and painting the waterfront on an almost daily basis. In his early years in the city, he supported himself at various waterfront jobs, as well as from commissions for boat portraits from fishing vessel captains, and murals for commercial establishments and private homes. His commercial work spanned many years and includes over thirty murals painted in different parts of the city. Returning to fine art pursuits in the 1990’s Jeff again focused on depicting Gloucester and its environs in various media. He currently operates a studio/gallery at 16 Rogers Street on the Gloucester waterfront. Jeff Weaver can be seen frequently around Gloucester doing what he loves – painting outdoors, capturing the beauty of Gloucester. Jeff Weaver’s “Works on Paper” will be on view at North Shore Arts Association July 27 through August 18. The NSAA is open free to the public Monday through Saturday 10am-5pm and Sunday noon-5pm.
