WALKING SAFETY PRIORITY PLANNING

O’MALEY INNOVATION MIDDLE SCHOOL AREA

MONDAY APRIL 10, 2017, 5 PM

O’MALEY INNOVATION MIDDLE SCHOOL

Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken and Ward 4 City Councilor Valerie Gilman invite O’Maley Innovation Middle School parents and children and residents of the surrounding neighborhood to a community meeting to discuss options for improving walking safety to and from the School. The City anticipates applying for a Complete Streets grant in May to fund the construction of projects supported by the community.

Stephen Winslow, Project Manager for Mass in Motion Cape Ann, will present seven potential safety improvement options many that were developed through a “Safe Routes to School” planning study completed in 2012. The improvement options include:

  1. Constructing a sidewalk along the south side of Reynard Street and improving the crosswalk at Reynard and Cherry Streets;
  2. Widening the sidewalk along Cherry Street from Reynard to the School;
  3. Installing a walkway to connect O’Maley School to Cherry Street;
  4. Widening the sidewalk along Cherry Street from the School to as far as Poplar Street;
  5. Improving crosswalks at the intersection of Cherry and Poplar Streets and adding sidewalks near there;
  6. Constructing sidewalks along all or part of Dr. Osman Babson Road; and
  7. Upgrading the pedestrian crosswalk at Washington / Wheeler Street by adding flashing pedestrian crossing warning signs.

Rockport Town Meeting April 1 9am

Snow, wind rain-no problem!  All Rockporters should attend and vote.  We’ll be using voting clickers for the first time.  This alone is reason to attend.  These will ensure that your vote is confidential and will help move the meeting along.  Go to  www.rockportma.gov and click on “Town Meeting” to see the warrant and other important information.  The purest form of democracy is an open town meeting.  Come and be a part of it.  Its great.

We’ll have child-care, food and coffee.  What could be a better way to spend a stormy April Fool’s Day!

Call for Volunteers! Cape Ann Sustainability Fair

TownGreen 2025, a program of the Gloucester Meeting House Foundation, presents its second Cape Ann Sustainability Fair on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at O’Maley Innovation Middle School, located at 32 Cherry Street in Gloucester, MA, from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Come join the fun! We need volunteers throughout the day of the event. If you’d like to help please email Kelly Knox at TownGreen2025@outlook.com. We have a list of potential volunteer opportunities. Cape Ann is getting greener! Come help out!

The Cape Ann Farmer’s Market will be on site from 10 AM to 2 PM. There will be an arts and crafts area for young children. The high school and middle school kids will share what they are learning about climate change. Folks can bring their broken bicycles to be repaired by volunteers from the Cape Ann Timebank and unwanted bikes can be donated for refurbishing by Bikes not Bombs. There will be live music, speakers addressing clean energy technology, carbon neutrality, locally relevant impacts of climate change, and personal carbon footprint reduction and folks will be able to have enlightening conversations with our expert youth ambassadors about climate change concerns on Cape Ann. There will be Electric Vehicles to test drive! Admission is free.

Poetry Workshop at the Cape Ann Museum

Ekphrastic Poetry Workshop

Saturday, April 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

April is national poetry month!

In this workshop, former North Andover poet laureate Gayle Heney will teach participants how to write poetry using the Museum’s collections as inspiration, concentrating on the new exhibition, Charles Movalli: Cape Ann & Beyond. As time allows, participants will be introduced to poetry prompts, stanzas, quatrains, ekphrastic poetry and experimental poetry. Depending on interest, discussion of the editing process and the option to read/perform may also be included.

GHS Interact Club Pizza Taste Off
