Gloucester Rotary 2023 Calendar Photo Requests

A 12-month Gloucester photo raffle calendar will be sold through the Gloucester Rotary that includes a raffle ticket. A winning number will be chosen each week in 2023. All profits from the calendar sales will go to the Gloucester Rotary’s efforts to raise money to support the many community and international activities in which the group is involved. Seaside Garden Club September Meeting

Save the date, Tuesday, September 13 for the first meeting of the new season. Our guest speaker will be Rosemary Malfi, the Pollinator Network Coordinator for NOFA Mass (Northeast Organic Farming Association). The Massachusetts Pollinator Network is a statewide initiative to connect and support the growing number of communities, organizations, growers, and researchers working to protect pollinators and native plant communities across the Commonwealth. The Seaside Garden Club is a group of fun, active, civic-minded and hands-on gardeners. We welcome all types of gardeners from beginners to experienced… there is always something to learn and share. We invite you to become a member of our club and enjoy our monthly programs which feature interesting guest speakers and creative workshops.

We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the month, September through June, at the Manchester Community Center, located at 40 Harbor Point, Manchester-by-the-Sea. Social time begins with light refreshments at 7:00 pm, followed by the program at 7:30 pm.

Annual membership is $30, make checks payable to The Seaside Garden Club, PO Box 94, Manchester, 01944. Guests are welcome to the September meeting for free. Subsequently, there is a $5 fee for guests.

There is no pre-registration, you just show up with your boat, ready to go by 7pm at the north Jones Creek entrance. A volunteer will be keeping track of the boats and will be on VHF Channel 6. Final Gloucester Main Street Block Party of 2022 is on Friday Night!

Get ready for the biggest and best Gloucester Main Street Block Party on Friday, September 2 from 6 to 10 pm to kick off Gloucester Schooner Festival & Labor Day Weekend! Kilted Colin, Bosoma School of Dance, Captain Jack, and Mary Poppins will be entertaining the crowds along with six musical acts on three separate stages. Six food vendors will be serving up delicious dishes along with several Main Street restaurants. Visit with your favorite non-profits and merchants, play some games, get your face painted, make some jewelry, and hold a snake or two! Guaranteed to be fun for the whole family and a great way to kick off Labor Day and Schooner Festival weekend!

Do you like meeting new people and promoting the greater Cape Ann area?

The Greater Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce is seeking volunteers at the Gloucester Chamber office to greet visitors, answers questions, offer recommendations, and provide general information. Available hours include Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Take one, two, or all three shifts, or even split shifts! Kids Poetry Afternoons at Sawyer Free Library

Join young Gloucester poet Willa Brosnihan to explore & enjoy poetry this Friday afternoon, August 26th at the Sawyer Free Library.

12:00 to 1:00 p.m. – For children entering grades 3 to 6 and younger. Write & read poems, try out rhyme, personification and haiku.  Register here.

1:30 to 3:30 p.m. – For kids entering grades 6 to 12. Poets from various eras and movements will be explored. Writing in response to prompts and investigating the mechanics of poetry will be explored. Register here.

Attention Professional and Recreational Photographers

A 12-month Cape Ann photo raffle calendar that will be sold through the Gloucester Rotary. A raffle ticket will be attached to each calendar and a winning number will be chosen each week in 2023. All profits from the calendar sales will go to the Gloucester Rotary’s efforts to raise money to support the many community and international activities in which the group is involved.

2023 Calendar Theme: Gloucester 400

In 2023, Gloucester is celebrating its 400th birthday, and the Gloucester Rotary wants to celebrate this with its calendar. Please, submit photos that reflect the best of Gloucester. Only photographs from Gloucester will be accepted. A selection committee from the Rotary will make the choices. (a photo release must be included for all individuals in image)

Technical specifications & rules:

Horizontal, color, minimum size 12 x 8” digital .jpg files at 300 dpi, maximum size 12 mb. In your entry submission email, title and identify where the photos were shot (e.g., Smith Cove) and, if possible, the month they were created. Photo title must be in your file name (example: kayakers-smith cove-may.jpg). Make sure to give your name and contact info in the email with your entries, including your mailing address, phone number and email address. Because of the large number of entries we expect, entries that do not meet the minimum size requirements and/or photographers who fail to provide the required entry info will be automatically rejected. In addition, no copyright watermarks are to be embedded in the photos or they will be disqualified. A signed photo release form must be provided for all individuals in the image.

Photographers who submit photos understand that we may need to slightly crop or downsize the winning entries for printing purposes and accept this. We reserve the right to use low res files of winning entries to help advertising the sale of the calendar. Winning entrants will have the photo title or location and photographers name printed under the photo.

$50 will be paid for each winning entry chosen for the calendar, as well as photo credit.
